Points-based skilled visas

POINTS-BASED SKILLED VISAS

You may be eligible for immediate permanent residence under the 189 Skilled Independent visa if you:

  • Are less than 50 years of age
  • Can read, write and speak English at least to the IETLS 6 level (exemptions available)
  • Have a relevant diploma or degree or at least 3 years employment experience in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List
  • Have a positive skills assessment from the relevant skills assessing body
  • Score at least 60 points on the points test

You may be eligible for immediate permanent residence under the 190 Skilled Nominated visa if you:

  • Are less than 50 years of age
  • Can read, write and speak English at least to the IETLS 6 level (exemptions available)
  • Have a relevant diploma or degree or at least 3 years employment experience in an occupation on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List
  • Have a positive skills assessment from the relevant skills assessing body
  • Are nominated by a State or Territory government
  • Score at least 60 points on the points test

 

You may be eligible for a temporary 489 Skilled Regional Provisional visa if you:

  • Are less than 50 years of age
  • Can read, write and speak English at least to the IETLS 6 level (exemptions available)
  • Have a relevant diploma or degree or at least 3 years employment experience in an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List
  • Have a positive skills assessment from the relevant skills assessing body
  • Are nominated by a State or Territory government
  • Score at least 60 points on the points test

You may be eligible for immediate permanent residence under the 887 Skilled Regional visa if you:

  • Have lived in a regional area for two years while holding a 489 visa
  • Worked in a regional are full-time for 1 year while holding a 489 visa
